May 6, 2002 Dear Friends, The annual container sent by International Health Foundation has finally cleared customs! Hurrah! In addition to supplies for IHCF's other locations in Ghana, it contained many boxes of "goodies" we have been anxiously waiting for here in Yendi: lots of donated clinic supplies, PHCW course supplies, some provisions for various missionary families, etc. Many of these things are simply not available in Ghana at any price, while others are donated or are extremely inexpensive in the USA. Unfortunately, there seems to be no reasonable way of ensuring that these things make it from the coast to Yendi without taking a "hands on" approach. Truckers are quoting outrageous delivery fees, and the load could easily be "lightened" along the way. So, Samson and Richard quickly decided to go South together to fetch as much as they can bring back in one load on a flatbed truck borrowed from the well-drilling project. Our little Toyota's cargo space just can't compare with the roughly 6' x 10' flatbed on the drillers truck. They will be taking the Tata truck (made in India) down through the Volta Region: the roads are mostly dirt, but it is shorter than going via Tamale and Kumasi, and there will be far less traffic. Please pray for their safe round trip. The Tata has a lot of "experience" on this type of trip and has a few battle scars and impairments to prove it. Richard has made some repairs that could be made quickly in advance, and he is bringing tools, of course, but there will be little mechanical help or supplies available along most of the route. In the service of Our King,
May 10, 2002 Dear Friends, Richard and Samson arrived home safely this afternoon with the Tata loaded high with boxes. They had a long, hard, interesting trip and were glad to be back. Thank you to those of you who sent clinic supplies, gifts, or donations to have the container sent, and a special thanks for the prayers. In His Service,
