Apr. 12, 2002 Dear friends, We just arrived back in Yendi yesterday afternoon and wanted to thank everyone for your prayers. There has been no damage to our part of town (in fact, our house was just as messy as when we left it). Peter kept the clinic open while we were gone, but both it and the Yendi Hospital Outpatient Dept. have had very few patients. People are staying home more. It was market day in Yendi yesterday as we drove in, and there was a good deal of commerce going on in the market, though not near the usual hustle and bustle of a normal market day. The government has many additional "peacekeeping" soldiers and police here and in the surrounding area, and they are to be here at least through May 15. The curfew is still in place, but it now begins at 7pm instead of 6pm, so our 5 - 6pm church meetings (Sunday and Wednesday) are no longer cancelled. We will have Friday prayer meetings, which are usually late at night, from 5 - 6pm as well. Peter, Richard, and I expect to take advantage of the decreased work at the clinic to get the handbook in shape for the June course in Kumasi. Thank you all for your prayers, and please continue to pray as the government and local leadership work to bring normalcy back to Yendi. In the service of Our King, |
