Sept. 24, 2001 Dear Friends, We are all doing very well and beginning to get settled back to a normal schedule this week. Joanna began her Freshman year in Homeschooling today, and Daniel started the 7th grade. Linda is again doing the dressing changes at the clinic, and we are both busy tackling the many other tasks that piled up in our absence. Most of last week was consumed with a trip to Accra to retrieve the rest of our baggage and supplies and take care of some government business. Our furlough seemed to go far to fast in many ways, but it is good to be back in Yendi and back to the work the Lord has put before us. A number of you have asked about local attitudes in response to the recent terrorist attacks, particularly within the muslim community. Ghanaians are very much a peace loving people, despite some tendency to tribal squabbles. The response to these events has been consistent with that love for peace. The prominent Islamic leaders of Ghana have appeared on Ghana Television condeming the acts of these extremists and organizing prayers for those harmed in the attacks. The Ghanaians we have heard from directly, muslim and otherwise, share in America's mourning and strongly support her efforts to prevent such attrocities in the future. The radical muslims of the Taliban and other such groups are a very stark contrast to the muslims with whom we work. Our upcoming newsletter will feature a story of incredible events that happened while we were away that underscore both this contrast and the opportunities for the Kingdom of Christ in Yendi. We ask that you continue to remember the Lord's work in Yendi before the Father as you pray for the leaders of our nation and the world. In the Service of the King, |
