Dear friends,

We have celebrated a lot this month, and there is still more fun to come. Papua New Guinea's Father's Day and Independence Day both fall in the month of September. Picture number one shows Thomas Williams, our teammates' youngest son, participating in the Independence Day festivities at his school. And as you can see from picture number two, the girls crowned their Dad King of their Castle for Father's Day.

We also rejoiced with three new sisters in Christ and celebrated three weddings in our town church. Because the old marriage custom has nearly died out, many people live together without a serious commitment, and that has wreaked havoc on most families in our area. Therefore, we have encouraged our Christians to make public commitments to their partners in a simple, legal ceremony. Three couples took that plunge this month, and one other will follow suit this coming Sunday. Whew! All of that mixed with my husband's birthday next week translates into a lot of cooking, a lot of eating, and a lot of joyful hearts all around.

Love, Diane Reese (with Marcus, Hannah, and Hadassah)
