The Mello Family

Natal, Brazil

Alvaro and Gloria Mello met in 1994, after they had both become widowed earlier the same year. They married in the beginning of 1995 and began their ministry together almost immediately following the wedding. They moved from their home in South Florida to Tennessee to begin working with the church as houseparents at Happy Hills Boys Ranch. It was in Tennessee that they met, fell in love with and adopted their daughter, Angelina, who was then 14 years of age. The three of them moved to Natal, Brazil in August of 2000 to begin working with the Carruth's who had come to Natal 5 years earlier for this new work. Alvaro comes to the field with not only almost 25 years experience but as one of the original converts of the first team to come to Brazil. He is a national Brazilian and was baptized by Glen Owen in 1964. He has been working in some capacity ever since his conversion.

The Mello's feel very blessed to be called back to Alvaro's home and are very excited about this new work. When asked how long they plan to stay in Natal, the answer is always, "We are here to stay and only God knows how long. We are fully committed to establish the church in Natal, to work as long as our Lord allows us to do what we believe is His will for us. This is our call, our mission and our desire.
